Dawn Phinney Latané is a native of Vermont. She was educated first at Moore College of Art in Philadelphia, and then University of Vermont, where she received a B.A. in Art History. A Master of Fine Arts degree was earned at the University of North Carolina-Greensboro, where her thesis exhibition received the Chancellor's Award. Since 1985 she has lived in Richmond, Virgina, and currently teaches as an adjunct faculty member at both University of Richmond and Randolph-Macon College. She has also taught in the School of the Arts at Virginia Commonwealth University and at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts Studio School.

Dawn Latané's exhibition record includes solo shows at commercial and college galleries in the mid-Atlantic, and group exhibitions around the country and abroad. She is a long-time member of One/Off, a Richmond based print co-operative, and her work is held in numerous corporate and private collections. As a reviewer her work has appeared in ArtPapers, New Art Examiner, etc. She was recently Rosehill Visiting Artist, Lewis-Clark State College, Lewiston, Idaho.
